Chafing Buffet Party Set

Setup Instructions, Safety Guidelines & Usage Tips

.

Setup Instructions

  1. Choose a safe location
Place the chafing rack on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface in a well-ventilated area. Keep the setup away from children, pets, flammable decorations, and anything that could catch fire.
  2. Set up the wire rack
Open and position each wire chafing rack securely on the table or serving surface.
  3. Add the water pans
Place one full-size aluminum water pan into each wire rack.
  4. Add hot water
Fill each water pan with approximately 1 inch of hot tap water. Do not overfill. The water helps transfer heat to the food while preventing the food pans from sitting directly over the flame.
  5. Place the fuel cans
Place two chafing fuel cans underneath each rack, in the designated fuel holders.
  6. Light the fuel
Carefully open and light the fuel according to the instructions and warnings printed on the fuel can. Keep your hands and face away from the flame when lighting.
  7. Add the food pans
Place the six half-size aluminum food pans into the three water pans—two food pans per water pan.
  8. Add hot, fully cooked food
Food should already be fully cooked and hot before being placed into the chafing setup. Sterno recommends starting with food at a minimum internal temperature of 160°F.
  9. Serve
Use the included serving spoons and tongs. Keep the water level in the pans at approximately 1 inch and replenish carefully as needed.

Safety Guidelines

PLEASE READ BEFORE USE

  • Never leave lit chafing fuel unattended.
  • Keep children and pets away from the chafing setup.
  • Keep the chafing set away from curtains, table decorations, paper products, balloons, and other flammable materials.
  • Use the chafing set in a well-ventilated area.
  • Never place food directly over the fuel flame. The water pan must remain between the flame and food pans.
  • Never use the fuel cans for cooking directly over the flame.
  • Never move a chafing rack while the fuel is burning.
  • Never add water to a burning or extremely hot fuel can.
  • Use caution around the hot water, pans, rack, and steam. Steam can cause burns.
  • Do not touch the fuel can or surrounding metal components with bare hands while they are hot.
  • Do not place your face or hands directly over the chafing dish because of hot steam.
  • Follow all safety warnings and instructions printed on the Safe Heat fuel cans.
  • Do not use damaged, leaking, or otherwise compromised fuel cans.
  • If a fuel can is accidentally knocked over or spilled, do not attempt to handle it while it is burning. Follow the instructions on the fuel container and use appropriate fire-safety procedures.
  • Keep an appropriate fire extinguisher accessible when using open-flame chafing fuel.

Extinguishing the Fuel

When finished, extinguish the flame according to the instructions on the fuel can. Do not attempt to pick up, move, or dispose of a fuel can until it has completely cooled.

Usage Tips

Keep Food Hot

Start with hot, fully cooked food rather than using the chafing setup to cook food. The chafing system is designed to keep food warm, not to cook it.

Check the Water Level

Check the water periodically throughout your event. Add more hot water carefully if the water level becomes low. Never allow the water pan to boil completely dry.

Use the Correct Serving Utensil

Use the included serving spoons and tongs to help keep food service clean and organized.

Don't Overfill the Food Pans

Leave enough room to stir and serve the food without spilling over the sides.

Keep Food Covered When Possible

If your food pans have covers, keep them covered when food is not being served to help retain heat and protect the food.

Plan Around the Fuel Burn Time

The included Safe Heat fuel provides up to 6 hours of burn time per can. If your event requires longer food-warming time, plan accordingly and follow the fuel manufacturer's instructions.

Cleanup

After the event:

  1. Make sure all fuel flames are completely extinguished.
  2. Allow the fuel cans, racks, water pans, and food pans to cool completely before handling.
  3. Remove and dispose of leftover food appropriately.
  4. Empty the water pans carefully.
  5. Aluminum food and water pans may be recyclable where accepted by your local recycling program.
  6. Do not dispose of or recycle fuel cans until they are completely extinguished and cooled and follow the disposal instructions on the fuel container.
